History

The 1st Milton (Weston-super-Mare) Scout Group has been delivering skills for life to young people in the local community for generations. Operating under the overarching Scouts Royal Charter Granted on 4th January 1912, the group serves the Milton area of Weston-super-Mare within the Axe Scouting District.

Key Milestones

  • Royal Charter Roots: The group’s foundational governance aligns with the early days of the UK Scouting movement, rooted in the Royal Charter of 1912.
  • Establishing a Home: For decades, the charity has operated from its dedicated headquarters, the 1st Milton Scout Hut located at 1a Drysdale Close, Weston-super-Mare (BS22 8HH).
  • Modern Era Growth: Registered explicitly as an individual charity with the Charity Commission (Charity Number: 305641), the group has continuously evolved its weekly programmes to match the needs of changing generations.
  • Welcoming Squirrels: In April 2024, 1st Milton expanded its reach to its youngest members by launching its brand new Squirrels drey and the 1st in Weston-super-Mare. This milestone introduced 4 and 5-year-olds to the adventures of the scouting movement.

Group Colours

  • Our Colours: Every member identifies with the historic royal blue neckerchief (neckie) featuring a distinct yellow border. This scarf acts as a symbol of unity, worn proudly at all parades, camps, and weekly meetings.
